Dead

As a vampire, Elijah is dead. This doesn't really factor into his thinking, given he is invulnerable any basic method of killing vampires. All that works is a white oak stake and they're rare. So because of this, Elijah is rather arrogant, believing himself superior to everyone else. Death, however, does affect him in other ways. He's witnessed his mother's death and recently lost his brother Finn. Those deaths have made Elijah more intent on protecting his remaining family, even if it means killing Marcel, who was like family to him. Facing death in his Canon Point, he's willing to take any risk to keep his siblings safe. That's why he's put into a deep sleep, waiting for Hayley, his girlfriend, to find a cure for the werewolf bite he received.

Friendly

Elijah, unlike most of his family, has a great deal of compassion for mortals. He is able to form friendships more easily with them and is willing to help protect them. He showed Davina, a young witch, kindness. They spent time together and she shared her troubles with him. He offered to help her learn how to control her magic, offering pages from his mother's Grimoire. Though he had his own designs, he kept his promise. He befriended Camille, a human who inevitably bonded with Klaus, often sticking up for her when Klaus becomes to overbearing. For the most part he is friendly and compassionate, save for when it's necessary for lives to be taken.

Pride

Being an Original, Elijah is proud of his status, as well of his history in New Orleans. He and his siblings helped build the city, and for a time, they were royalty. Despite not having the title anymore, he still holds himself as superior to everyone else. He's willing to put others in their place if they challenge him. He took out a room full of Marcel's vampires when he and Klaus were fighting for New Orleans. He warned Stefan and Damon to show him respect as he's an Original. He views others as pawns, often tools to help him achieve his goals and shows no remorse for his actions, such as when he killed Davina to save his family. He is a Mikaelson.

Child

Thinking of a child, Elijah will always think of Hope. She's Klaus' daughter, the first tribred, particularly witch, part werewolf, and part vampire. He views her as the glue to his family, the one that bring them out of a cycle of cruelty and bloodshed. She's their literal hope to being better, especially Klaus. Elijah pushed Klaus to admit he cares for her, he's protected her before she was even born. He tries to shield her from the horrors of the world, even turning her stroller away before he slaughters a group of hunters. He loves Hope deeply and would even give his life for her.

Door

The Red Door is a part of Elijah's mind where his more sadistic and violent actions. When he was first made a vampire, Elijah accidentally lost control and fed on the woman he loved. He begged his mother's help, so she sealed away the horrors of what he'd done. This red door blocks his violent actions, shielding his compassion and humanity from his darker aspects. So long as he "cleans himself up", he won't experience those memories. By having a clean and presentable appearance, he's not at risk. Recently, he's seen glimpses of the door and faced some of the memories. It horrified him and makes him feel like a monster. He worries he's a threat to Hayley or he might someday do something serious. However, currently, the red door is closed.
